Sicily. Silent calls and a cross to “Giornale di Sicilia”
The mysterious act is considered an intimidation by the editorial board of the newspaper. Investigations are in progress. The UNCI: clarify the situation in a short time
A small cross, made of plastic sticks, was found the morning of September 13, at around 1:00 p.m. in front of the newsroom of Giornale di Sicilia in the city of Caltanissetta, after some silent phone calls arrived just a few minutes before. The newspaper has reported both episodes to the police as an act of intimidation.
Solidarity with the newspaper came, among others, from Assostampa of Sicily (the regional union of the journalists) and by the regional branch of the Unci (National Union of the Italian journalists), whose president, Leo Zingales, said: “We ask the police to clarify the situation soon”.
“The attempt to intimidate or influence us – reported the editorial board of the Giornale di Sicilia – is so absurd and pathetic. We stand firmly on our choices expressing our strong solidarity to the colleagues working in Caltanissetta”.
