Complaints. Valtellina. Il Gazetin risks foreclosure for convictions
So far 48 thousand euros in fines The last sentence for an illustration which quotes a historic manifesto. All because of a bankruptcy began sixteen years ago in Sondrio
Il Gazetin, the monthly of Morbegno, in the province of Sondrio, risks ceasing publications because of convictions for defamation incurred for the publication of some critical articles on bankruptcy proceedings that lasted for 16 years. The last sentence refers to an illustrated editorial with a reproduction of a historic manifesto of the Republic of Salò, a combination that was considered offensive.
Previous convictions arise from a barrage of lawsuits for articles on the same subject. Between penalties and legal fees so far, the newspaper has paid out 48 thousand euros. The last conviction to pay seven thousand euros sounded the alarm bell. In the absence of new facts, said the chief editor Enea Sansi, our monthly is unlikely to continue beyond the middle of 2015, when it will celebrate his twenty-five years of life in Valtellina.
