The commander of the Municipal Police of Pescara Carlo Maggitti has filed a lawsuit for libel against the authors of the TV show Le Iene. The complaint refers to the service broadcast on November 25, 2014, which reconstructs the intricate story of the towing of the car of the superintendent of the city, Paolo Passamonti. Maggitti asked the magistrate for the seizure of the entire video of his interview.

For the same case the journalist of Il Tempo, Carlo Patricelli, has been on trial for three years having been sued for libel by the superintendent. Furthermore, a municipal policeman was indicted for violation of professional secrecy and, together with three other policemen, is under disciplinary proceedings for having released interviews. Two months ago the Senator Luigi Compagna submitted an inquiry to which the government still has not replied.

THE REPORT – The report by Le Iene contains an interview by Matteo Viviani to the commander Maggitti. The interviewer asks him to say how things went on December 8, 2011, when the car of the superintendent was fined and removed from a no parking spot and then returned to the owner without the payment of the fine for contravention of the Highway Code. Commenting on the reconstruction of the commander, who has denied any role in the affair, Viviani exclaims “Its a lie!” and points out that one policeman, Major Sergio Petrogolo, said that the provisions were given to him by the same commander. Maggitti sued Viviani accusing him of making a false reconstruction of the facts.
