Defamation. President of Sampdoria, Ferrero, files charges against Mario Giordano
The announcement was posted on the football team’s website on March 10th. In the evening the reporter’s reply: “This is my job, whether you like it or not”
On March 10, the president of the Sampdoria football club, Massimo Ferrero, has instructed his lawyers to proceed with a libel suit against the chief editor of TG4 Mario Giordano for his book Pescecani. Quelli che is riempiono le tasche alle spalle del Paese affonda (“Sharks. Those who fill their pockets from a sinking country”), released on the same day. The news was announced by the website of the Sampdoria football club, where the letter signed by Ferrero announcing the lawsuit was published.
“What was written in his latest book, what was reported by the newspapers Libero and La Stampa, what was said on television, only ever to advertise his latest work, is heavily offensive against me”, the president of the Sampdoria club claims. “I realize that without talking about me, his book would not have as much visibility, but there is a limit to easy gossip” he writes.
In the evening the reply by Mario Giordano arrived, as announced by Dagospia. “On the same day in which he became president of Sampdoria you asked for a plea bargain for fraudulent bankruptcy in Busto Arsizio relative to the Livingston case. So far, no one had gone to read the papers of that ugly mess. I did it and I told facts on you that so far no one else had yet reported. This is my job, whether you like it or not”, Giordano said.
