Erice. Mayor threatens lawsuits for criticism to cycling lane
The City Council of Erice (Trapani province) has authorized the legal action against a freelance of La Repubblica after an article on the high cost of the works
Publicly challenged and threatened with a lawsuit by the City Council because of a critical article, is what has happened to Francesco Bellina, young freelance reporter for La Repubblica, Palermo offices, and who lives in Trapani. On September 28, the reporter has published on the website of the newspaper a photo gallery with captions showing the cycling lane of Erice Casa Santa (village near Erice, in the province of Trapani).
The article caused the mayor of the Sicilian town, Giacomo Tranchida, to go on a rampage. So much so that he announced a libel suit against the reporter and those who have given visibility to the same article, because Bellina claims that hundreds of thousands of euros have been spent just to paint red a stretch of sidewalk and curb.
