Threatened journalists: 42 cases on the platform of the Council of Europe
Five on European soil, none in Italy. The initiative aims to protect media workers under attack through political and diplomatic actions
On March 30th, 2015, the Council of Europe, in collaboration with five international organizations, has launched the much awaited for Internet platform on which to report the most serious violations of press freedom and attacks on journalists that occur in the 47 member countries. 42 cases were already reported. In the European Union, violations have been reported in France (the attack onCharlie Hebdo of January 7th, 2015 in Paris), Greece, Serbia, Slovenia, Spain. No reports on Italy.
The cases are uploaded on the platform by the five international organizations that have signed a special memorandum of intents: Article 19, Association of European Journalists, European Federation of Journalists, International Federation of Journalists and Reporters Without Borders.
