On June 4th, 2015 the judge for the preliminary investigations of the Court of Grosseto has deemed unfounded the motivations of the hunters, who filed charges for aggravated defamation against Giacomo Bottinelli of the Lega Antivivisezione (LAV), who flagged the spike in shotguns and hunting licenses. The judge has closed the proceedings becuase of the right to criticize upon an issue of public interest. The hunters have not been accepted to an appeal trial.
