Misidentification. Acquitted of defamation two journalists from tv show Report
Sigfrido Ranucci and Luca Chianca had been misled by a case of homonymy, they corrected themselves spontaneously but were sued anyway
“The facts do not constitute an offense”: with this formula, on 11 December 2015, the Judge for the preliminary hearing of the Court of Benevento, three years after the facts, acquitted the journalists Sigfrido Ranucci and Luca Chianca from the charge of libel.
They had mistakenly indicated an entrepreneur of Benevento as a defendant in a judicial investigation for illegal export of capital abroad. The error was rectified spontaneously in the next episode of the TV show, but the entrepreneur sued nonetheless. The mistaken identity was made in a report aired on April 15, 2012 during the broadcast of the show Report on Rai 3.
Ossigeno dealt with the case on October 12, 2015, when the deputy prosecutor of the Court of Benevento, Nicoletta Giammarino, asked the retrial for the two journalists.
“We have respected the rules of professional conduct and we have acted in good faith, as has been recognized” Ranucci said interviewed by Ossigeno.
