Defamation. Politician’s lawsuit against three reporters sent to the archives

On 17 February 2016 the judge for the preliminary investigations, Ines Rigoli, of the Court of Patti (in the province of Messina) sent to the archives for lack of elements the defamation proceedings against the Quadrifoglionews.it journalist, Enzo Caputo, and the chief editor of the portal Salvatore Calà, and Massimo Scaffidi, editor of Scomunicando.it. The three had been sued by the mayor of Sinagra (in the province of Messina), Enza Maccora, along with her husband and father because two items: the one that appeared on Quadrifoglionews.it on April 8, 2014, signed by Caputo, and the one published on Scomunicando.it on April 7, 2014. The articles talked of fake news, such as the invention of non-existent patron saints and the identification of the mayor in the person of Nunzia Foglia, inserted under the voice “Sinagra” in the online encyclopedia Wikipedia.
