Striscia la Notizia. Valerio Staffelli threatened in Milan
The reporter had secretly interviewed a fake volunteer who collected money. When he told him, the man attacked him. The police intervened
“Go away, or I’ll stab you. Go away or I’ll shoot you”: these were the threats that the reporter for Striscia la Notizia, Valerio Staffelli, received in Milan by a man gathering cash donations for charity in Milan. The reporter had just interviewed him with a hidden camera making him reveal that in fact the funds would then be used for other purposes. The interview was made for the production of the report on false volunteers seeking cash donations outside of theaters and in public squares. The investigation, entitled “False Charity”, was aired on February 8, 2016 by the satirical TV news program of Canale 5 (Watch the video).
In the coming days the second part will go on air.
Approached by an accomplice of the reporter, one of the fake volunteers explained how the system works for getting money for personal use. His statements were taken and recorded by hidden cameras of Striscia La Notizia. When Staffelli revealed himself, explaining that he had been recorded and asking his permission to use the filmed interview, the man began to threaten him. Staffelli moved away and the man ran after. The chase was interrupted with the arrival of the police who took away the fake volunteer while, heedless of the agents, he continued yelling at Staffelli: “I’ll let you do the report. I’ll let you end up the way that guy there didn’t manage to.”
