Verona. Charged for libel the mayor that sued Ranucci (Report)
Flavio Tosi has to answer also for defamation against the journalist. It was decided by the examining magistrate who has found bad faith in the complaint
After two years, the lawsuit against the journalist was filed by the judge who, having found the plaintiff’s bad faith has simultaneously ordered his indictment for aggravated slander and libel. So the case brought in 2014 by Flavio Tosi, mayor of Verona, against the journalist of the television program of inquiry Report, aired on Rai 3, hit by what Ossigeno defined immediately as an inadmissible preemptive lawsuit, got turned around on its feet.
THE FACTS. On February 9, 2016 the judge for the preliminary investigations of the Court of Verona, Livia Magri, ordered the public prosecutor of compulsory indictement of the mayor Flavio Tosi for the crimes of libel and aggravated and protracted defamation. The origin of the trial was a lawsuit filed by Mr Tosi, on February 21, 2014, against the journalist Sigfrido Ranucci of Report, who had gone to Verona to collect information on the work of the mayor to use in an investigation into the management of the City and its procurement contracts, which then went on the air on April 7, 2014. By the same warrant, the magistrate has filed seven other proceedings for defamation arising from complaints by the mayor and other persons named in the same investigation. The slander charges were also sought for the former Northern League representative Sergio Borsato.
