Ventimiglia. Journalist with camera was taken away
He had filmed racist insults to migrants, Order and Union of journalists of Liguria say, who protested
from Sanremonews.it – August, 7th 2016 – “The right to make and receive information is untouchable even and especially in dramatic moments where tensions, exploitation, violence often converge on journalists. To those who try to impose it with unacceptable behavior, the answer is what reporters do and will continue to do in Ventimiglia and elsewhere.”
The Order of Journalists of Liguria and the Ligurian Association of Journalists, said so in a statement relative to the attempt to block the camera of a journalist, then turned away, who had filmed the ‘racial slurs’ against a group of migrants. The Order of Journalists of Liguria and the Ligurian Association of Journalists, in the note, also manifest a ‘non-ritual solidarity’ to the colleagues and to the relatives of the agent killed by an illness in another tough and violent day on the border of Ventimiglia. The journalist’s name was not disclosed.
According to larampa.it – which reconstructed the scene, this would be the freelancer Stefano Bertolino, who has posted the images on fanpage.it. To insult the migrants would have been a police officer in plain clothes.
