Ventimiglia. Substitute reporter unwelcome? Inquiry to the mayor
On October 21, 2016 Carlo Iachino, opposition councilor, asked through an inquiry to the mayor of Ventimiglia (in the province of Imperia) Enrico Ioculano, whether it is true that he has pressured the chief editor of the local online newspaper Riviera 24 for the replacement of one journalist in charge of following the City’s policies, since she was unwelcome to the administration.
This was reported by another local newspaper, La Riviera. (read)
“To the journalist – Iachino writes in the inquiry – was forbidden to write articles related to the sessions of the city council and to accept press releases or articles produced by the opposition. Being that this situation certainly does not aid their reputation, nor the transparency of this administration, I ask in what capacity has your spokesman acted, whether mediated by you or of their own initiative, violating every right to press freedom and to the person with a serious anti-democratic, invasive and persecutory behavior”.
