The speech of Professor Mario García de Castro at II International Transparency Congress

Identifying and disseminating each of the cases of attacks on journalists and information providers in the exercise of their profession is an indispensable necessity for defending the right to freedom of expression and for ensuring access to information to all citizens. This is the message expressed by the speech of Professor Mario García de Castro, Ossigeno per l’Informazione’s representative in Spain, during the roundtable on “Proposals of Civil Society in Transparency and Advanced Democracy”, which was held during the II International Transparency Congress, from 27 to 29 September at the Complutense University of Madrid.

The debate was moderated by Victoria Anderica Caffarena, director of the Project on Transparency of Madrid, and was also attended by the representative of the Confederation of Consumers (CECU), and the president of the Association for the Fight against Corruption.

The Ossigeno representative, Professor of Audiovisual Information at the Faculty of Communication Sciences at Juan Carlos University in Madrid, explained that there is a need for independent organizations and institutions in each country to protect journalists threatened and protect the exercise of freedom of expression.
